A tragic incident occurred on a New York City bus Monday afternoon when a passenger was fatally shot, according to police reports. The shooter managed to escape after the attack.
The victim, a 41-year-old man, was shot in the stomach around 2:30 p.m. while traveling on a BX36 bus near East Tremont Avenue and White Plains Road in Parkchester, The Bronx, authorities stated.
Following the shooting, the injured Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) passenger was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, police confirmed.

The suspect, described as wearing a white t-shirt and armed with a black handgun, headed south on White Plains Road and remained at large as of Monday afternoon, police and sources indicated.
Authorities have not yet determined if the attacker and the victim were acquainted or what might have triggered the shooting.
Following the incident, a blood stain was still present on the sidewalk, and the area surrounding the bus was secured with yellow crime scene tape as investigations proceeded.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed, pending notification of family members.
