Authorities have recently released new images of two suspects involved in a brutal mugging that resulted in the death of a 66-year-old man in the Bronx. The victim, Wesley James, was walking near his home on East Tremont Avenue when he was attacked by the muggers around 10:30 a.m. on September 18.
James was punched in the face by the assailants, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head. Despite his injuries, the muggers attempted to rob him as he lay defenseless on the pavement.
Despite the attackers’ attempts to rob James, they ultimately fled the scene empty-handed. James was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center and initially listed in stable condition, but his health deteriorated over time until he passed away on November 3.
According to law enforcement sources, James’ death was attributed to blunt force trauma, which resulted in a severe brain injury. The case has since been reclassified as a homicide, but as of Tuesday night, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
The NYPD has released images of the two suspects still at large, urging anyone with information to come forward. During James’ funeral in November, his family expressed their desire for justice and for the perpetrators to be apprehended.
“I believe in the law,” stated James’ brother, Lelburn James. “I want the law to catch these criminals and get them off the street, so this won’t happen to anybody else’s family.”
