Mayor Adams has vowed to crack down on the illegal gatherings, saying last month that the city will be “very aggressive” in its response to such events. He has also proposed creating a task force specifically dedicated to addressing car meetups and other disruptive gatherings.
Residents of Ozone Park hope that the city will take swift action to put an end to the chaotic and dangerous meetups in their neighborhood before someone else gets hurt or killed.
“We are pleading with you to act swiftly and decisively to ensure the safety of our community,” Esposito wrote in the letter. “We implore you to take immediate action to prevent further tragedies from occurring.”
The future of these car meetups remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the residents of Ozone Park are fed up with the dangerous and disruptive gatherings that have plagued their neighborhood for too long.
