Authorities reported that a 44-year-old woman was severely beaten on Randall’s Island late Friday night and remains unresponsive four days later.
The incident occurred as the woman was walking along the bike path at 600 East 125th Street on the island around 11:30 p.m. She was struck in the head and face multiple times by a suspect or suspects who are still at large, according to the NYPD.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where she remains in critical condition and unresponsive as of Tuesday, as per police reports.
Due to the woman’s inability to communicate with law enforcement, the details surrounding her attack remain largely unknown.
Further information about the assault, including its motive, is currently unclear, according to the authorities.
Officials have shared an image of the woman in the hopes that witnesses may have seen her or her assailant(s).
