The NYPD is currently searching for a group of teenage muggers who assaulted a woman in Central Park earlier this month. The incident took place at 67 West Drive around 11:45 p.m. on August 11th. The three suspects, believed to be between the ages of 15 and 17, approached the 27-year-old woman and forcibly demanded her belongings. They took her phone and purse, subsequently using her credit card to make unauthorized charges.

Surveillance footage and images of the suspects were released by the police, showing them walking inside what appears to be a building lobby. One of the suspects is described as a slim-built male wearing a white tank top, gray sweatpants, red and white sneakers, and carrying a black cross-body bag. The second suspect is also slim-built and was last seen wearing a multi-colored hat, a white t-shirt, black shorts, white sneakers, and a black cross-body bag. The third suspect was wearing a black baseball hat, a black t-shirt, and white shorts.

While this particular robbery does not seem to be part of a pattern, the overall rate of robberies in Central Park has increased significantly this year. In comparison to the same period in 2023, there have been more than double the number of reported incidents. The latest NYPD data shows a total of 34 robberies so far this year, as opposed to 13 during the same timeframe last year.

Recently, an 11-year-old boy arrested for a subway robbery in Queens was linked to a series of robberies in Central Park involving a group of migrant boys or young men. Approximately 10 robberies in the park have been connected to this group. The NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell disclosed this information, highlighting the concerning trend of increased criminal activity within the iconic park.
