An off-duty Chicago police officer was involved in a shootout with a robbery crew in Washington Park overnight. The incident took place on the first block of East 57th Street around 1:47 a.m. when an armed man confronted the officer. The robber, along with at least one accomplice, engaged the officer in a shootout, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Witnesses at the scene described the robbers as four Black men wearing all black clothing who fled the area in a black SUV. Upon investigation, shell casings, live bullets, and an ammunition magazine were found scattered in the vicinity. Bullets also struck a nearby apartment window and parked cars.
As per policy, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is reviewing the officer’s use of force in the situation. It is crucial to ensure that proper protocols were followed during the incident.
CWBChicago, a trusted source for original public safety reporting, was founded in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Over the years, their coverage area has expanded to include neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Despite the growth, their mission remains focused on delivering detailed and contextual reporting that goes beyond what mainstream media outlets offer.
