An off-duty police officer was arrested in The Bronx for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in his Co-op City apartment. Officer Ndegnior Kpan, 27, was taken into custody after a 911 call reported an assault at his residence.
The teenage victim claimed that she had a dispute with Kpan, who she considered a friend, and when she tried to retrieve her belongings from his apartment, he forcibly removed her outside, resulting in visible injuries. An investigation revealed that Kpan had an “intimate relationship” with the minor, constituting statutory rape.
Kpan, who had only been on the force since July 2024 and was on extended leave at the time of the incident, was suspended without pay following his arrest. He faces charges of rape, endangering the welfare of a child, and assault.
The reason for Kpan’s extended leave was not immediately disclosed, and he had not yet been arraigned as of Friday evening. The case underscores the importance of addressing sexual misconduct within law enforcement and ensuring accountability for officers who abuse their power.
