On Wednesday evening, an off-duty NYPD officer shot a man who reportedly attempted to rob her and her husband at Penn Station, according to multiple sources.
The officer, along with her husband—who is also a police officer off-duty—was navigating the crowded Midtown location around 7 p.m. when a 32-year-old male allegedly tried to rob them, as detailed by sources.
During the encounter, the officer fired her weapon, hitting the suspect near Long Island Rail Road track 18, the sources indicated.
The robbery suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, according to the NYPD.
The NYPD cautioned, “Due to a police investigation, please avoid the area of West 34th Street between 8th and 7th Avenues.”
They also warned of possible delays and heavy traffic in the vicinity.
Post-incident images showed a significant police presence, with caution tape surrounding the area of LIRR tracks 18 and 19.
Commuter John Leahy, who was near tracks 20 and 21, mentioned encountering screams that he compared to “drunk young men getting into a fight.”
“There was a train set to depart for Long Beach, but they abruptly canceled it due to police activity in the station,” Leahy shared with The Post, recalling the hectic rush hour.
“It was still rush hour. I can’t fathom someone trying to commit a robbery during such busy times,” he added.
This ongoing incident is still under investigation.
