The tragic story of the 7-year-old girl shot in the head by her mother during a murder-suicide that claimed the lives of her sisters has come to a devastating end. Olivia Blackmer fought for her life for five days in the hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City on Saturday afternoon. Her stepmom, Katelynn Beatty, shared the heartbreaking news on the GoFundMe campaign page she started for Olivia’s medical expenses.
In a poignant update, Beatty wrote, “Olivia is with her sisters now. She gained her angel wings yesterday at 3:44 pm.” Olivia had undergone emergency brain surgery and was heavily sedated in the days leading up to her passing. Despite her valiant fight, her body could no longer withstand the trauma it had endured.
Olivia was shot by her mother, Tranyelle Harshman, in a tragic murder-suicide that also claimed the lives of her 9-year-old sister Brailey and her 2-year-old twin step-sisters Brooke and Jordan. Harshman then turned the gun on herself. Olivia was airlifted to Utah Children’s Hospital for treatment but sadly did not survive her injuries.
The family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and prayers they have received during this difficult time. Both Olivia and Brailey are remembered for the love they brought into the lives of those around them. Their father, Quinn Blackmer, expressed gratitude for the love and support from the community.
The loss of Olivia and her sisters has left a void that is incomprehensible to those who knew and loved them. Harshman, who was struggling with mental health issues, postpartum depression, and PTSD, made the heartbreaking decision to end her children’s lives before taking her own. The family is now in the process of making funeral arrangements for Olivia.
The tragic events have left the community in shock and disbelief. The grief-stricken father of Brooke and Jordan, Cliff Harshman, expressed deep anger and sorrow at the senseless loss of his daughters. The pain and devastation caused by this tragedy are beyond words.
