Before Olivia Cooke took on her role in the âGame of Thronesâ spinoff âHouse of the Dragon,â she had tried her luck with another big franchise: âStar Wars.â
During her appearance on Josh Horowitzâs âHappy Sad Confusedâ podcast, Cooke addressed whether she was considered for a role in Rian Johnsonâs 2017 âStar Warsâ film âThe Last Jedi.â She clarified that this was merely a âweird rumor,â but disclosed that she did audition for the character of Rey in 2015âs âStar Wars: The Force Awakens,â a part that ultimately went to Daisy Ridley.
âI did audition a few times for the other one, where Daisy Ridley got [it],â Cooke said. âBut you know, everyone and their dog auditioned for that.â
The audition process did not go as she had hoped. âI think I auditioned once in L.A., and then once with J.J. [Abrams]. And I was shit. I was really bad,â she confessed.
Reflecting on the experience, Cooke added, âYou know when you go into an audition, and youâre just not bringing it and youâve let yourself down, youâve let everyone down in the room?â She praised Daisy Ridley’s performance, acknowledging, âDaisy did such an amazing job, I just wasnât that kind of an actor at that time. It just wasnât a fit.â
Cooke subsequently appeared in films like âMe and Earl and the Dying Girl,â âReady Player One,â and the Oscar-nominated âSound of Metalâ before securing her role as Alicent Hightower on âHouse of the Dragon.â The show is currently in its third season, with a fourth and concluding season anticipated for 2028.
