It seems that some individuals within the FBI are expressing discontent regarding the trajectory set by Donald Trump for the agency.

NBC’s Ken Dilanian shared on X:

Fired FBI executive Brian Driscoll was escorted out of an FBI facility in Virginia amid applause from over 200 people. “People are upset,” noted a source.

Since assuming office, Trump has been systematically replacing non-partisan officials with loyalists.

Dilanian also reported that Trump dismissed an FBI official mourning the loss of his wife just a month prior:

Walter Giardina, another casualty of the Trump/Patel/Bongino FBI purge, is a Marine veteran who recently lost his wife, aged 49, to pancreatic cancer.

According to the FBI Agents Association, brace yourselves, the Trump administration is disregarding the established protocol for evaluating FBI agent employment:

The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) is alarmed by reports that FBI Special Agents—both case agents and senior leaders—are facing potential termination without due process for fulfilling their duties related to federal crime investigations. Agents do not have the discretion to choose their cases, and they execute their responsibilities with professionalism and integrity while adhering to the law. There is a formal review process in place for employment actions against Agents.

This process was designed to maintain the FBI’s independence and apolitical nature. FBI leadership has publicly committed to the FBIAA that they would uphold this process. We urge them to honor this commitment and comply with the law. If these Agents are dismissed without due process, it jeopardizes public safety. Agents must concentrate on their work, not on the threat of unjust termination linked to their assignments. FBIAA is actively exploring all legal avenues to defend our members. We will always stand by FBI Agents.

The FBIAA’s statement accurately captures the essence of the situation. Trump and his affiliates are evidently attempting to undermine the FBI’s independence.

Individuals like Driscoll are being dismissed not for incompetence, but because they lack loyalty to Trump.

Interestingly, the applause for Driscoll as he exits is a subtle act of rebellion against the current administration. When FBI agents investigated Trump, they were merely performing their jobs, as they should.

Conversely, the same FBI conducted an investigation into Hunter Biden, yet no one from that inquiry faced termination.

Should Republicans falter in the upcoming midterm elections, one could easily envision Trump’s grip on the federal administration loosening.

The agents who applauded Driscoll signaled their discontent over his firing, a sentiment reverberating in various sectors across the nation, especially under the present administration.
