The Brighton Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday night, involving a fatal domestic disturbance.

According to the Brighton Police Department, the incident took place in the vicinity of Beldock Street and Chavez Street.

Authorities were called to the scene after a 48-year-old man reportedly discharged a firearm inside a residence. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the home, prompting a response from law enforcement.

The Commerce City-Brighton SWAT team and crisis negotiators attempted to establish communication with the suspect. However, the situation escalated when the man fired shots at the officers. Fortunately, no law enforcement personnel were injured.

Despite multiple efforts to peacefully resolve the standoff, the suspect tragically took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after several hours of negotiation.

At this time, the identity of the suspect has not been disclosed by the police.
