ChatGPT Users Can Now Customize Chatbot’s Tone and Style

OpenAI recently announced on social media that ChatGPT users now have the ability to adjust the chatbot’s warmth, enthusiasm, and use of emojis. This new feature allows for further personalization of ChatGPT’s tone, in addition to the existing options of Professional, Candid, and Quirky tones introduced in November.

These customization options, including adjustments to headers and lists, can be found in the Personalization menu and can be set to More, Less, or Default based on user preferences.

Earlier this year, OpenAI faced criticism for the tone of ChatGPT, with users expressing concerns over updates that were deemed too sycophantic or cold and unfriendly. In response, OpenAI made changes to make the chatbot warmer and friendlier, addressing user feedback and preferences.

However, some experts have raised concerns about chatbots’ tendency to excessively praise users and validate their beliefs, suggesting that these behaviors could contribute to addictive patterns and have a negative impact on users’ mental well-being.
