OpenAI Delays Launch of “Adult Mode” for ChatGPT Feature
OpenAI has decided to postpone the release of the highly anticipated “adult mode” for its ChatGPT feature, which would provide verified adult users with access to erotica and other adult content.
The initial announcement of this feature was made by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman back in October. Altman mentioned that in December, they would introduce age-gating more extensively and offer erotica for verified adult users as part of their commitment to treating adults with respect.
This launch had already faced a delay from its original December timeline due to Altman’s call for teams to prioritize the core ChatGPT experience. Now, an OpenAI spokesperson has informed Axios that the launch of adult mode is being pushed back further to focus on enhancing intelligence, personality, and proactivity of the chatbot, which are deemed higher priority for a larger user base at the moment.
While the company still upholds the value of treating adults like adults, they acknowledge that perfecting the user experience will require additional time. The exact duration of this delay remains uncertain, and the news was initially reported by Sources.
