Renowned opera singer Jubilant Sykes met a tragic end in his Santa Monica residence on Monday night after being fatally stabbed, with his adult son taken into custody in connection with the incident, authorities disclosed.
The distressing event unfolded when Sykes’ wife dialed 911 at approximately 9:19 p.m. to report an altercation involving their son at their dwelling on Delaware Avenue close to 18th Street in the Pico neighborhood, as per the police report.
Responding officers entered the residence and discovered Sykes with severe injuries, as explained by Lt. Lewis Gilmour of the Santa Monica Police Department.
Santa Monica Fire Department personnel declared Sykes deceased at the scene.
The victim’s son, Micah Sykes, aged 31, was apprehended at the residence and is currently in police custody.
It was also disclosed by authorities that the son has a documented history of mental health issues.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that this was an isolated incident confined to the household,” stated Gilmour, emphasizing that the case remains under active investigation.
