Oracle is undertaking significant changes within its leadership team, focusing on enhancing its position in the AI infrastructure market. The company announced the promotion of Clay Magouyrk and Mike Sicilia to co-CEO roles.
Clay Magouyrk has been with Oracle since 2014, having transitioned from Amazon Web Services. He played a pivotal role as a founding member of Oracle’s cloud engineering team and has excelled as the president of the cloud infrastructure business unit for over ten years.
Mike Sicilia, previously the president of Oracle’s industries division since June, brings extensive experience from various roles within the company, which he joined through the acquisition of Primavera Systems in 2008.
Safra Catz, who has been at the helm of Oracle as CEO since 2014, will be stepping into a new role as the executive vice chair of the company’s board of directors.
“Today, Oracle is recognized as the leading cloud platform for both AI training and inferencing. I take great pride in this achievement,” Catz expressed in a statement. “Our technological and business foundations are more robust than ever, and our remarkable growth trajectory indicates an even brighter future. Now is the perfect time to entrust the CEO role to the next generation of skilled executives.”
Traditionally known as a leader in cloud infrastructure, Oracle is evolving to secure its stake in the competitive AI infrastructure landscape. Earlier this year, the company joined forces with OpenAI and SoftBank on the ambitious $500 billion Stargate Project aimed at establishing data centers and AI infrastructure across the United States.
In addition, Oracle recently finalized a monumental agreement with OpenAI, amounting to $300 billion worth of compute resources. Just days ago, reports revealed that Oracle is in discussions for a substantial $20 billion compute agreement with Meta.
