Overview

Advantages

  • 2-minute timer with quadrant notifications
  • Battery lasts up to 6 weeks
  • Rechargeable via USB

Disadvantages

  • Sonic efficiency specifications not provided
  • No IP rating for water resistance

Final Thoughts

Without question, this is the most affordable electric toothbrush I can recommend. The value it offers at this price point is quite remarkable. While it may not match the performance of a premium model, it surpasses a manual brush considerably and serves as an excellent travel companion.

Current Best Prices: Ordo Sonic Edge electric toothbrush

Just how affordable can an efficient electric toothbrush be? That’s the question that crossed my mind as I unwrapped the Ordo Sonic Edge toothbrush.

The best budget electric toothbrush we’ve suggested thus far, albeit with some reservations, is the Oral-B Vitality Pro, which is available on Amazon for £23.99.

But could you pay less? I put the £14.99 Ordo Sonic Edge through its paces to find out.

Design and Construction

  • Single brushing mode available
  • 2-minute timer functionality
  • USB charging capability

The Sonic Edge is a lightweight, streamlined toothbrush weighing in at just 63g, in contrast to the 77g Suri 2.0 and the heftier 135g Oral-B iO4.

With a narrow brush head, the nylon bristles are arranged in a W shape to enhance contact with teeth, supplemented by an X-shaped silicone polisher at the center of the head.

To access the charging port, a cap located at the bottom of the handle can be removed. While this design offers a measure of water resistance, it’s important to note that it lacks an official IP rating, so immersion in water should be avoided. To maintain its condition, it’s wise to refrain from using it in the shower.

While a spare brush head isn’t included, this is typical for the price range. When it’s time for a replacement after three months, a two-pack of replacement heads costs £10, which is nearly the price of the toothbrush itself, but it’s difficult to find non-generic heads at a lower cost.

A travel cap and a USB-C charging cable are also included, though notably, a plug is not provided.

A notable highlight of these brushes is the variety of color options available. The model I’m testing is “Peach Sunrise” (essentially orange and red), but choices also include “Paradise Pink,” “Lime Sorbet,” “Cobalt Breeze,” “Fiji Fuchsia,” black charcoal, snow white, and two themed options in collaboration with Wicked in green and pink.

The standard brush head is white, unless you opt for the charcoal variant, but you are free to choose from a broad spectrum of colors for replacement heads.

Another positive aspect is the brush’s environmentally responsible packaging, crafted from plastic-free, recyclable cardboard, making it not only eco-friendly but also more user-friendly than traditional plastic casings.

Functionality and Features

  • Impressive 6-week battery duration
  • Quiet operation
  • Battery status indicator

The brush is activated by a single button with no multiple modes, as is typical of budget models. It does however feature a two-minute timer with 30-second alerts to prompt quadrant changes before automatically shutting off.

Performance-wise, the brushing action is surprisingly vigorous and quietly efficient, without the rattling common to some budget models. It certainly provides a clean far exceeding its price bracket.

The concern lies in the fact that effective sonic movements generally range from 24,000 to over 30,000 vibrations per minute, yet Ordo has not disclosed these details for this particular model.

This means it likely outperforms a manual brush while potentially falling short compared to higher-end models like the Oral-B iO or Philips Sonicare.

It certainly provides a clean far exceeding its price bracket.

While I couldn’t test Ordo’s claimed six-week battery life, it displayed no signs of wear or diminished performance after two weeks, indicating it’s more than sufficient for travel use.

An indicator light below the power button glows white when the brush is powered on and turns red when the battery runs low or charging. A green light signifies a full charge. This is a valuable feature often absent in lower-cost brushes—it’s frustrating not to know if a device is fully charged or even charging properly.

One significant feature missing from this brush, aside from multiple brushing modes, is a pressure sensor.

For those advised by a dentist to reduce pressure while brushing, or for individuals with sensitive gums or enamel issues, a brush with a pressure sensor is recommended. Check out our recommendations for the best electric toothbrushes and specific picks for Oral-B models.

Cost and Where to Buy

The Ordo Sonic Edge is available through the Ordo website as well as Amazon UK for £14.99. However, it is currently not available in the US; check out our selection of the top budget electric toothbrushes for additional suggestions.

Is the Ordo Sonic Edge electric toothbrush Worth Buying?

In a world where genuine bargains are rare, this product stands out as one.

Typically, electric toothbrushes at this price range tend to be ineffective annoyances; however, this model is worth your investment.

If you have the budget for a superior brush for daily use, I would recommend an Oral-B iO to most individuals. But for those seeking a travel-friendly option or an affordable risk-free upgrade from a manual toothbrush, this electric option is a worthwhile experiment.
