Rhythm and Alps festival staff were hard at work over the rainy weekend preparing for the highly anticipated new year festival, ready to welcome dozens of artists and over 10,000 attendees to the Cardrona Valley over the next two days.
As of yesterday, the festival crew — consisting of administrative staff, bartenders, and food vendors — were all set up and eagerly awaiting the start of the festival today.
Bartender Cai Evans, who had traveled from Christchurch for the fifth consecutive year to work both days of the event, was all set with his own tent.
“It’s the highlight of the year.
“We’re basically getting paid to party.”
An estimated 10,000 people are anticipated to attend each day, with many festival-goers opting to camp on the festival grounds.
While some attendees brought their own camping gear and campervans, others opted to pay for tent rentals.
Rows of tents were already set up for the festival-goers expected to start arriving at 10am today.
The music is scheduled to kick off at 4pm.
