Meet Nigeria’s Rising Star Designer: Peter Oshobor
After five years of hard work and dedication, Peter Oshobor is making a name for himself as Nigeria’s next big designer. His recent collection, titled “Night has Come,” showcased his talent and creativity in a stunning fashion show that left guests in awe.
One guest described Oshobor as an artist, and it’s easy to see why. The collection explored the themes of obscurity, tension, and vulnerability that come with the nightfall, creating a powerful and emotional experience for both the designer and the audience.
Backstage, Oshobor was tearful as he reflected on the success of his show. “I didn’t expect it to be received this well,” he admitted. The standout piece of the collection was a gold sculpted dress made entirely from upcycled styrofoam, showcasing Oshobor’s innovative approach to fashion design.
Other key silhouettes included a full-length red lace dress with a fringed half cape, as well as a brown cropped vest and skirt with fringed wool detailing. The combination of gentle fabrics like Nigerian lace with deadstock wool created a romantic yet slightly disturbing aesthetic.
Oshobor’s collection represents a modern and commercial take on African fashion, with a global appeal. He recently showcased part of his collection in Paris, highlighting his ambition to reach an international audience. “We’ve evolved from our traditional roots because the idea is not to remain stagnant. Oshobor is meant to be a global brand,” he explained.
