House Democrats Stand Up to Trump

Despite being narrowly out of the majority, House Democrats are continuing to stand up to President Trump and raise awareness about his unpopular agenda. Recently, the House Oversight Committee Democrats sent a letter to Trump demanding that he abandon any illegal schemes to dismantle or privatize the USPS.

Led by ranking member Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), the Democrats emphasized the importance of the Postal Service as an independent, self-sustaining agency that relies on its own revenues. They warned Trump that his plans to dismantle the USPS would undermine the affordability and reliability of the postal system, potentially leading to political interference, shifting priorities, and skyrocketing prices.

The Democrats highlighted the critical mandate of the Postal Service to deliver efficient, reliable, and universal service to all Americans. They expressed concerns that Trump’s reported plans for the Postal Service could put at risk the timely delivery of life-saving medications, mail-in ballots, financial documents, and letters from loved ones, especially in rural or less profitable areas.

Trump’s History of Targeting the USPS

Throughout his first term as president, Trump made several attempts to destabilize and harm the USPS. His efforts to turn the public against the Postal Service raised concerns among Democrats and advocates for the preservation of this essential public institution.

Moving Forward

As House Democrats continue to push back against Trump’s attempts to dismantle the USPS, it is crucial for the public to stay informed and support efforts to protect this vital service. By standing up to the president and holding him accountable for his actions, Democrats are working to safeguard the integrity and independence of the Postal Service for all Americans.
