Paramount TV Studios has recently undergone a major reorganization in its leadership team following the merger with Skydance, which resulted in mass layoffs. Matt Thunell, the head of Paramount TV Studios, shared this news with the staff in a memo, expressing confidence that the new structure would enhance collaboration, streamline decision-making, and drive growth.
Since August, Thunell has been overseeing the merged division of Skydance Television and Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, effectively replacing Chris McCarthy. The combined TV operations are now known as Paramount Television Studios, a revival of the original Paramount TV arm that closed in 2024.
Thunell’s memo outlined the changes in the leadership structure of the studio. Key appointments include Drew Brown as the Head of Production, Shelley Zimmerman and Carolyn Harris continuing as Heads of Development and Current, respectively, and Keith Cox overseeing the lineup of shows from the Taylorverse. Additionally, there are changes in corporate functions, business affairs, legal affairs, finance, talent, casting, and Nickelodeon Live-Action and Awesomeness divisions.
Thunell expressed gratitude to the colleagues transitioning out of their roles, acknowledging their significant contributions to the organization. He emphasized the importance of the new structure in fostering collaboration and driving growth, promising to focus on creative and business strategy under the new leadership team in the coming weeks.
The reorganization aims to position Paramount Television Studios for success by aligning its structure to better serve creators, audiences, and partners worldwide. The studio’s senior executive talent is instrumental in achieving ambitious goals, and the new leadership decisions are intended to facilitate this growth.
The changes in leadership roles across various departments reflect a strategic realignment to optimize operations and drive innovation in content creation. Thunell’s message conveyed optimism for the future and appreciation for the dedication and achievements of the outgoing colleagues.
The reorganized Paramount Television Studios is poised to build on its legacy of producing world-class television series, with a renewed focus on collaboration, creativity, and strategic growth. The integration process will continue as the studio evolves under the leadership of the new team, setting the stage for a new chapter of success in television production.
