In recent years, ‘We, the People’—the proud citizens of the United States—have seemingly taken our citizenship and its accompanying privileges for granted. While our love for this country and the freedoms we enjoy is unquestionable, the story of Eliel Rosa offers a refreshing perspective on why such blessings should never be overlooked, nor should we forget the value of those who aspire to join our ranks.

Rosa’s journey is a quintessential immigrant narrative, exemplifying the dedication and passion we should expect from all who seek to become American citizens. A Brazilian national, Rosa became a defendant in the events surrounding January 6th, but notably, he stands out as the only “non-citizen” to have received a pardon from President Donald J. Trump on January 20th, 2025. His status as a “non-citizen” was not by design; rather, it resulted from the complications surrounding his citizenship process, which was halted due to his involvement in the January 6th events.

Since 2018, Rosa and his family have diligently pursued legal citizenship, investing tens of thousands of dollars into the process, only to now be told they must restart from square one.

Eliel and his family fled Brazil after surviving a bombing of their vehicle in their own garage—a traumatic event that underscores the perilous conditions they escaped. With a history as a political figure in Brazil, Eliel was deemed a threat by the illegitimate Luna administration, which emerged from the shadows of a globalist agenda.

Throughout his life, Eliel has championed the teachings of America’s foundational documents across more than 24 countries, nurturing a deep-seated love for the United States since childhood. His ambition to gain citizenship has been a lifelong goal, and through his online institution, The Nehemiah School of Government, he continues to educate about our nation’s history and the principles that shape our Constitutional Republic. In a recent interview with the Midland Report-Telegram, he expressed,

“For over two decades, I have passionately studied America’s founding documents and principles. I came to America in pursuit of a PhD in Constitutional Law—a dream that has yet to be realized. The Nehemiah School of Government, launched in January 2018, is dedicated to rebuilding the Judeo-Christian foundations of America, inspiring both native citizens and immigrants to be agents of change for their communities and the nation. We promote public readings of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Mayflower Compact three times a year—July 4, September 17, and November 11.”

Rosa has received numerous honors from his Texas community, which has steadfastly supported him, even amidst the charges stemming from January 6th.

Recently, however, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) dealt a significant blow to the Rosa family by revoking Rosa’s wife’s asylum application, while Eliel’s previously approved status is now pending, forcing them back to the starting line they occupied in 2018.

This bureaucratic shuffle has also left Eliel unable to reunite with his family. His son and daughter-in-law, as well as their children, have faced visa complications, resulting in years of separation from Rosa and preventing him from meeting his newborn grandchild.

When discussions about immigration arise, the focus often falls on individuals who cross the border illegally. While we may sympathize with their circumstances, the reality is that those seeking legal pathways must navigate bureaucratic hurdles or risk deportation. Rosa and his family have diligently followed the law, investing heavily to pursue citizenship in the country they cherish.

Eliel attended the “Save America” rally on January 6th to show his support for President Trump, experiencing firsthand the camaraderie and passion of fellow attendees. He left the Capitol that day with cherished memories and a profound sense of love for America.

This week, Eliel returned to Washington D.C., navigating the halls of Congress in search of assistance for his plight. He is reaching out to anyone who might help rectify his situation.

While we acknowledge the vigorous efforts made by figures like Tom Homan, Marco Rubio, and Kristi Noem to address illegal immigration, it’s crucial to recognize that Eliel Rosa embodies the type of immigrant we should welcome. He arrived legally and has taken all necessary steps to continue in the legal framework. It is imperative for President Trump and his administration to understand the injustices facing Rosa and his family. Few can match Eliel’s love for this country, and he deserves the opportunity to become a United States citizen.
