A parenting influencer has confessed to the accidental incident of running over her young son with her car, describing it in a long social media post as a “true nightmare” for any parent.
Kelly Hopton-Jones, a 36-year-old mother of two, detailed in an Instagram post that she was preparing to take her 4-year-old daughter, Lily, to buy donuts on Wednesday before her dance performance. Her husband and their 23-month-old son, Henry, remained at home.
Hopton-Jones, who shares parenting tips with more than 63,000 followers under the Instagram handle “Hillside Farmhouse,” recounted that as she was leaving, Henry unexpectedly ran out of the garage and was hit by her car within seconds.
“I was driving,” the Texas-based mommy blogger wrote. “Our neighbors immediately came to help by taking Lily, and we hurried to the emergency room.”
Hopton-Jones reported that X-rays of Henry’s chest, legs, and neck showed no abnormalities, and his neurological exam did not indicate any head injury.
Despite this, she noted that Henry suffered fractures to his pelvis, which will require time to heal, along with a few abrasions.

Hopton-Jones described the event as “the worst day of our lives” but acknowledged that it was “a true miracle” her son wasn’t more severely injured.
“We keep replaying it, trying to understand how this could’ve happened when we were right there. I don’t have that answer,” she wrote, sharing images of herself holding Henry’s hand in the hospital.
“It’s so easy to start questioning everything. If the morning had looked different. If B had gone to work like he normally would have, both kids would have been safely in their car seats,” she reflected in her post’s caption.
“We could drive ourselves crazy with the what ifs, and honestly, we are a little bit,” she admitted. “But accidents happen.”
