A tragic incident occurred in Gastonia, North Carolina, where a 7-year-old boy named Legend Jenkins lost his life after being hit by an SUV driver while crossing the street with his 10-year-old brother. The parents of the young boy, Jessica Ivey and Samuele Jenkins, are now facing charges for involuntary manslaughter and child neglect.
The heartbreaking incident took place on May 27 when Legend and his brother were walking to a nearby grocery store. A 76-year-old woman driving a Jeep Cherokee struck Legend as he attempted to cross a four-lane road. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Legend succumbed to his injuries.
The Gastonia Police Department, while expressing condolences to the family, emphasized that the children were unsupervised at the time of the accident. The parents are now detained in Gaston County Jail on bond.
Following the arrests of Legend’s parents, the police department faced backlash from the public. However, they refrained from commenting on the matter.
The driver involved in the incident has not been charged as there was no evidence of wrongdoing. Legend’s mother, grieving the loss of her son, believes that the driver’s driving privileges should be revoked.
Justice is being sought for Legend, and the community mourns the loss of a young life in this tragic event.
