Andrea Mitchell, the chief Washington and chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News, has been selected to receive the prestigious Peabody Career Achievement Award this year. Mitchell, who has been with NBC News for over five decades and served as its chief foreign affairs correspondent for 30 years, has been recognized for her outstanding coverage of politics and foreign policy. She has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including a Peabody Award for her reporting on the Texas abortion ban and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Television Academy in 2019. Mitchell has covered eight White House administrations and 12 presidential races, solidifying her reputation as a respected and seasoned journalist.

The Peabody Awards ceremony, where Mitchell will be honored, is set to take place on June 1 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Comedian Roy Wood Jr., known for his work on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” and CNN’s “Have I Got News for You,” will host the event.

In addition to Mitchell, the long-running NBC late-night sketch comedy series “Saturday Night Live” will also be recognized with the Peabody Institutional Award. As the show wraps up its landmark 50th season, it has become a cultural touchstone with its sharp writing, political satire, and iconic sketches. Created and executive produced by Lorne Michaels, “SNL” has garnered numerous awards over the years, including 101 Emmys, six Writers Guild of America Awards, and three Peabody Awards.

The Peabody Awards organization praised “SNL” for its ability to satirize presidents and politicians from both major political parties, providing viewers with entertaining and relevant commentary on the American political landscape. The show’s “Weekend Update” segment and viral cold opens have become must-watch moments for audiences each week. Previous recipients of the Peabody Institutional Award include iconic shows like “Star Trek,” “The Simpsons,” “60 Minutes,” and “Sesame Street.”

The Peabody Awards, which recognize excellence in various programming categories, will announce this year’s nominees on April 15 and April 17, with the winners being revealed on May 1. Bob Bain Productions will produce the 2025 ceremony, where outstanding achievements in entertainment, documentary, news, podcast/radio, arts, children’s and youth programming, immersive and interactive media, and public service programming will be celebrated. Andrea Mitchell and “Saturday Night Live” are set to be honored for their significant contributions to the media landscape at the upcoming ceremony.
