Return of the Shelbys: New ‘Peaky Blinders’ Series Announced
The world of Peaky Blinders is set to expand as a sequel series featuring a new generation of the Shelby family is on the horizon.
Created and written by the original show’s mastermind, Steven Knight, this sequel will unfold against the backdrop of 1953 Britain. Both Netflix and the BBC have given the project a two-season green light. While details about the cast remain under wraps, original star Cillian Murphy is involved as an executive producer.
A New Era in Birmingham
The storyline promises to be gripping, with the plot stating: “After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In this new chapter of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a fierce and bloody contest. This city stands at the brink of unprecedented opportunity and peril, with the Shelby family at its blood-soaked center.”
Production Details
The new series will be produced by Kudos, known for titles such as SAS Rogue Heroes and House of Guinness, alongside Garrison Drama, which produced all six seasons of the original Peaky Blinders as well as the upcoming film. Filming is set to take place in Birmingham at Digbeth Loc. Studios.
Expressing his excitement, Knight remarked, “I’m thrilled to announce this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again rooted in Birmingham, it will explore the tale of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys is ready to take the wheel, and it promises to be a wild ride.”
Seasons and Executive Production
The two new seasons will each comprise six 60-minute episodes. In addition to Knight and Murphy, the new era of Peaky Blinders will see executive production from Karen Wilson and Martin Haines for Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook for Garrison Drama, Jo McClellan and Danielle Scott Haughton for the BBC, and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley for Netflix.
Upcoming Film
Fans can also look forward to a film titled The Immortal Man, expected to hit theaters in early 2026. This feature is anticipated to continue the narrative from where the series concluded, with Murphy taking the lead role alongside a star-studded cast that includes Stephen Graham, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan. Written by Knight and directed by Tom Harper, whose notable works include This Is England ’86 and The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, the film aims to further engage the audience in the captivating world of Peaky Blinders.
