Kate McKinnon has officially joined the ensemble of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” Season 3, casting her as a recurring guest star.
She will embody the role of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess renowned for love and beauty. According to the character’s official description, Aphrodite possesses the ability to change her appearance based on who observes her and must ensure that Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) understands the significance and power of love before she agrees to assist him on his journey.
McKinnon is widely recognized for her tenure on “Saturday Night Live,” where she was a cast member from 2012 until 2022. Throughout her time on the show, she secured 10 Emmy nominations, winning the prestigious award twice. Her notable film credits include “Bombshell” (2019), “Yesterday” (2019), “The Spy Who Dumped Me” (2018), and the 2016 remake of “Ghostbusters.” Recently, she portrayed Weird Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” (2023) and took on the role of Carole Baskin in Peacock’s 2022 limited series “Joe vs. Carole.” Looking ahead, McKinnon is set to appear in Andrew Stanton’s upcoming Hulu sci-fi movie “In the Blink of an Eye.” She is represented by CAA, Artists First, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is adapted from Rick Riordan’s beloved middle-grade book series. Riordan co-created the TV adaptation with Jonathan E. Steinberg, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Dan Shotz. Executive producers include Steinberg and Shotz, along with Riordan and Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg from the Gotham Group, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler, and Sarah Watson. Joining Scobell in the leading roles are Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, and Daniel Diemer.
The series made its premiere on Disney+ in 2023, and the second season is set to debut on December 10. Currently, Season 3, based on “The Titan’s Curse,” is in production in Vancouver.
