Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves from Christchurch expressed condolences to the family of the deceased individual and assured them of ongoing support during this challenging time. The incident, which reportedly involved rival gangs Black Power and the Mongrel Mob, may have included gunfire.
While acknowledging the gang affiliations of those involved, Det Insp Reeves clarified that the incident was not gang-related but rather an isolated conflict between specific individuals. She emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of retaliation and assured the public of their safety.
Three individuals, aged 19, 31, and 40, have been arrested and charged with aggravated wounding and robbery. Det Insp Reeves mentioned that additional charges are being considered, and the suspects are currently in custody, scheduled to appear in court on March 17.
Despite the gravity of the situation, there is no ongoing threat to the wider community. Police presence remains vigilant, working in collaboration with specialized units and community partners to ensure public safety.
