Authorities responded to a call at a property on Brooklyn Rd around 3:30pm on Sunday, where the injured individual was promptly transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Witnesses recounted hearing what sounded like a gunshot prior to the fall, although police initially could not confirm this detail.
However, Detective Senior Sergeant Lee Underhill has since verified that a shotgun was indeed discharged during the incident.
Underhill stated, “Although no one was struck by the gunfire, it appears that the attack was intended for a specific individual, who sustained injuries while attempting to escape to safety.”
“The fact that a firearm was discharged in a densely populated apartment complex is alarming, and we are actively pursuing all leads to apprehend the perpetrator,” she added.
Additional police presence will be deployed in the vicinity to reassure the community, Underhill assured.
She urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation.
