South Park Season 28 recently aired a Thanksgiving special that brought the beloved Colorado mountain town back to our screens. In this episode, the citizens of South Park participate in the annual Turkey Trot while facing some unexpected challenges.
The episode kicks off with the South Park City Council discussing sponsorship for the Thanksgiving 5K race. With many local businesses struggling financially, a foreign entity steps in to sponsor the event – Saudi Arabia. The sponsorship comes with a hefty prize of $5,000, but it also comes with a strict rule against making any disparaging remarks about the Saudi Royal family.
At the same time, United States Secretary of War Pete Hegseth pays a visit to the Park County Police Station with a mission to bust Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel out of jail. In a dramatic entrance, Hegseth rappels into the station flanked by National Guard soldiers, all while live-streaming the operation for his viewers. Despite his grandiose entrance, Sergeant Yates denies his request to release Thiel.
Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone return to their signature “South Park” style with this episode, moving away from the previous Trump-centric storylines. Throughout Seasons 27 and 28, the show has taken jabs at President Trump, putting him in compromising situations like being in bed with Satan and Vice President JD Vance. Despite this, “South Park” has managed to stay off Trump’s radar, with comedian Patton Oswald suggesting that Trump respects the show’s success and high ratings.
In a recent podcast appearance, Oswald explained that Trump values numbers and money, which is why he hasn’t lashed out at “South Park” despite its satire. The show’s brilliance and popularity seem to be a shield against Trump’s ire, allowing it to continue pushing boundaries and entertaining audiences.
As “South Park” continues to deliver its unique brand of humor and social commentary, fans can expect more outrageous storylines and hilarious moments in Season 28. With the Thanksgiving special setting the stage for more chaos and laughter, it’s clear that the residents of South Park are in for another wild ride.
