Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faced criticism for his comments on Iran, where he attempted to shift blame for the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Hegseth claimed that Iran had been waging a “savage, one-sided war” for decades, despite not openly declaring it. He emphasized that the U.S. was now finishing the war, under President Trump’s leadership.

However, it was pointed out that a joint U.S.-Israeli military offensive against Iran led to the recent deadly events in the region. Critics, including Christian author John Pavlovitz, called out Hegseth’s statements as false and misleading.

During a press conference, Hegseth echoed Trump’s stance on not seeking regime change in Iran after the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He insisted that the conflict was not about regime change, even though the regime had effectively changed.

Social media users were quick to mock Hegseth’s remarks, with some highlighting the irony in his statements. Overall, Hegseth’s attempts to justify the U.S.’s actions in the Middle East were met with skepticism and scrutiny. given sentence:
