Zoe Champion’s Celestial Inspiration Shines Through in PH5’s Fall Collection
Zoe Champion was inspired by the beauty of the night sky when designing PH5’s latest fall line. Drawing from two different stargazing adventures, Champion’s vision for the collection was truly out of this world. The most recent experience took place at Warrumbungle in New South Wales, Australia, the first designated dark sky national park in the world. Surrounded by a mountain range, the lack of artificial light allowed the stars to twinkle even brighter, influencing Champion’s designs. An earlier trip to Hawaii with brand co-founder Wei Lin, where the duo laid on their backs in the middle of a road to observe constellations, also played a key role in shaping the collection.
The standout pieces in this collection were the more simplistic ones: silhouette dresses adorned with star patterns and jeans featuring stars on the back pockets. While some elements, such as floral prints and mixed media pieces, seemed out of place, Champion’s creativity shone through in subtle details like moon-shaped rings incorporated into hems. The combination of fluffy mohair with PH5’s signature dense, stretchy knit resulted in technically impressive reversible pieces, though the overall collection felt slightly overwhelming with its plethora of imagery, colors, fibers, and embellishments.
Although not featured in the lookbook, PH5’s foray into activewear is a natural progression for the brand. With its vibrant colors and body-hugging knits, the label is well-suited for creating unique performance gear. Imagining a gym twin set consisting of a cropped cardi and active tank showcases the brand’s potential to expand into new territories.
