Philipp Plein’s Resort Collection Makes a Splash at the Cannes Film Festival

Despite the threat of rain in the usually sunny city of Cannes, Philipp Plein’s resort collection made a statement at the iconic Carlton Beach Club, one of the most famous locations in Cannes. For the past decade, Plein has showcased his resort collections in the garden of his house, but this year, due to the weather, he decided to switch things up.

The Cannes Film Festival, currently in session, has always been a source of fascination for Plein. He sees it as the perfect place to kick off the summer season in style. This year, Plein presented a womenswear-only collection that was a nod to cocktail and evening dresses, predominantly in black.

The collection featured 16 looks that showcased Plein’s dedication to a niche market. The craftsmanship of the garments was impeccable, with intricate details and embellishments that set them apart. One standout piece was a fully sequined black dress with red stone embroideries, which took two women and 10 days to create. Another eye-catching design was a short dress in sequined python skin, adorned with a three-dimensional snake motif.

Cocktail dresses and suede separates in the collection were adorned with strass, adding a touch of glamour to the pieces. An A-line little black dress featured a crystal version of the matelassé technique, showcasing Plein’s attention to detail and innovation. The lineup also included floaty draped dresses that exuded sophistication and elegance.
