BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) â A small plane has crashed in South Florida near a major interstate highway and railroad tracks, according to police reports.
The Boca Raton Police announced via social media that several roads near the Boca Raton Airport have been closed near Interstate 95 following the incident that occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Local media outlets have reported that the plane caught fire, prompting a response from firefighters.
The number of individuals on board the plane and their survival status remains unclear. Fire officials informed the South Florida Sun Sentinel that the plane seemed to have collided with a car, pushing it onto the railroad tracks, resulting in their closure. The well-being of the car’s occupants is also uncertain.
Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer stated that the investigation is in its initial stages.
âWe are saddened to report that a plane crash has taken place within our community earlier today. As more information unfolds, we are closely coordinating with emergency responders and authorities,â Singer expressed in a statement. âOur thoughts are with those impacted by this tragic incident. We urge for patience and respect for the affected families as inquiries progress.â
