During a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and a business delegation in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the opportunity for foreign investors to be part of India’s growth story. PM Modi emphasized the importance of joining initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World’ to benefit from India’s status as a global trade and manufacturing hub.
PM Modi stated, “This is the right time to join India’s growth story as the country is becoming a global trade and manufacturing hub,” underscoring India’s strong pillars of democracy, demography, demand, and data. Germany acknowledged India’s skilled workforce by increasing visas for Indian workers from 20,000 to 90,000.
Chancellor Scholz, on a three-day official visit to India, expressed interest in enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized the need for more cooperation and closer military ties during his visit.
As part of his visit, Chancellor Scholz will also travel to Goa to oversee the German naval frigate ‘Baden-Wuerttemberg’ and combat support ship ‘Frankfurt am Main’ as part of Germany’s Indo-Pacific deployment.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the importance of understanding and respecting mutual sensitivities to expedite India-EU free trade agreement talks. He suggested that focusing on core trade issues would facilitate a swift conclusion of the agreement.
The Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business, attended by German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, provided a platform to discuss key economic matters between India and Germany.
