Summary created by Smart Answers AI

In summary:

  • Tech Advisor reveals that Poco has introduced the X8 Pro series, which includes the X8 Pro priced at £349 and the inaugural X8 Pro Max at £469, both boasting solid mid-range features.
  • The devices come equipped with 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED screens, large batteries of 6,500mAh and 8,500mAh respectively, and run on Android 16 with four years of updates promised.
  • Standout features encompass Dimensity processors, 50MP Sony cameras, customizable RGB notification lights, and a unique Iron Man Edition aimed at competing with the Galaxy A57.

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Poco has unveiled the Poco X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max, setting new standards in mid-range performance, potentially outshining Samsung’s Galaxy A57 and A37.

The Poco X8 Pro Max marks the brand’s debut in the Max segment, featuring a robust 6.83-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2772 x 1280 and impressive brightness levels of up to 2000 nits in HBM and 3500 nits peak. It also incorporates an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which is rare for phones in this category.

This display is encased in a sturdy 162.9 x 77.9 x 8.2mm IP68-certified body, weighing 218g, justified by its substantial build.

The phone’s battery is a massive 8,500mAh unit, with 100W wired charging support to ensure quick charging.

This model is poised to be the fastest in the Poco X-series, powered by a Dimensity 9500s processor and 12GB of RAM, available in 256GB and 512GB storage variants.

The camera setup, while modest, includes a 50Mp main camera with a 1/1.95″ Light Fusion 600 image sensor and an 8Mp ultra-wide lens, along with a 20Mp front-facing camera.

Adding a unique touch, the cameras are surrounded by Dynamic RGB Lights, which can be programmed to light up with notifications.

While the Max model might steal the spotlight, there’s also the Poco X8 Pro to consider.

The Poco X8 Pro shares a similar design but is more compact, with dimensions of 157.53 x 75.19 x 8.38mm and a weight of 201g, featuring a 6.59-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display that matches the brightness of its Max counterpart.

It comes with a slightly smaller 6,500mAh battery, yet still supports 100W HyperCharge wired charging.

The camera arrangement is akin to the Max model, albeit with a 50Mp Sony IMX882 main sensor.

Performance is slightly lower, with a MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra processor, paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM.

Xiaomi

Both phones operate on Android 16 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 UI, and come with a promise of four years of OS updates and six years of security patches.

We also have a special mention for the Poco X8 Pro – Iron Man Edition, a limited variant of the standard Poco X8 Pro. It features Marvel’s Iron Man branding, a custom UI, and a special packaging, but it won’t be sold in the UK. Pricing in Europe is still being finalized.

Pricing starts at £469 for the 256GB version of the Poco X8 Pro Max, increasing to £519 for the 512GB model. Although it’s the priciest in the X series, it remains cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy A56 and likely the Galaxy A57, as well as the Google Pixel 10a.

The Poco X8 Pro starts at £349 for 256GB, rising to £399 for 512GB, and reaching £429 for the 12GB RAM version. This reflects a £40 increase from the previous Poco X7 Pro, indicating that Xiaomi is not immune to the pricing pressures affecting all manufacturers.

Poco is also offering attractive early bird deals, making these mid-range phones a worthwhile consideration for those looking for value.
