AMC Networks is revisiting the adrenaline-pumping world of “Point Break” with a new TV adaptation in the works. Set in 2026, 35 years after the original film, the series will focus on a daring heist crew connected to the Ex-Presidents gang from the movie.
The project is being developed by Dave Kalstein, known for his work on shows like “Butterfly” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.” He will write and executive produce the series alongside Alcon Television Group and AMC Studios. The competition was reportedly fierce for the rights to bring “Point Break” to the small screen, but AMC emerged victorious.
For those unfamiliar with the iconic film, “Point Break” was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and featured Patrick Swayze as a charismatic bank robber and Keanu Reeves as an undercover FBI agent. The story follows a group of surfers who double as bank robbers, donning masks of former U.S. presidents during their heists. The intense cat-and-mouse game between the FBI agent and the criminals culminates in a thrilling chase sequence.
This upcoming TV adaptation is not the first time “Point Break” has been reimagined. In 2015, a remake was released starring Édgar RamÃrez and Luke Bracey. However, fans of the original will be eager to see how the new series expands on the beloved story and characters.
Stay tuned for more updates on the “Point Break” TV adaptation as it continues to make waves in the entertainment industry.
