Merseyside Police confirmed that a 53-year-old man has been arrested following a disturbing incident at Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League victory parade. The chaotic scene unfolded in Liverpool city centre when a car collided with crowds on Water Street around 6pm on Monday.

According to reports, the car came to a stop at the scene after hitting pedestrians, and a white British man from the Liverpool area was taken into custody by authorities. Merseyside Police stated that extensive investigations are underway to determine the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Emergency services, including the North West Ambulance Service, responded to the scene to assess the situation. However, details regarding any casualties have not been released at this time.

The incident occurred as hundreds of thousands of football fans gathered in Liverpool to celebrate their club’s Premier League victory. The club’s players were on an open-top bus parade through the city for several hours before the collision occurred.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer expressed his shock and concern over the incident, describing the scenes as “appalling.” He extended his thoughts to those injured or affected and commended the police and emergency services for their rapid response to the situation.

Both Liverpool FC and Liverpool City Council stated that they are cooperating with the police in the ongoing investigation.
