An individual was apprehended in Christchurch following an incident where he reportedly discharged a shotgun and then fled the area.
Law enforcement officials were summoned to a residence on Emmett St in Shirley at approximately 4:40 pm on Monday after receiving reports of a man firing a shotgun.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The man departed the scene in a vehicle.
Upon locating a vehicle matching the description, the driver attempted to evade the police.
“Upon identifying a vehicle of interest, the driver attempted to flee upon seeing the presence of law enforcement,” a spokesperson remarked.
Due to the reckless driving behavior displayed by the individual, a pursuit was terminated.
Nevertheless, authorities were able to track the vehicle to a location on Sumner St in Spreydon.
Subsequently, cordons were established and the 36-year-old suspect was taken into custody around 5 pm.
Police officials are contemplating the possibility of pressing charges in connection with the incident.
“This was a rapidly evolving situation, and we are relieved that there were no injuries sustained by any members of the public,” the spokesperson emphasized.
Following the arrest, law enforcement conducted examinations of the scenes at both the Emmett St and Sumner St properties.
