Police hunt for motorcyclist after fatal hit-and-run

The Rotorua police have shared more details about the motorcyclist involved in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 24-year-old Paige Johnson. Authorities are still searching for the male motorcyclist, described as having a distinctive full-length tattoo on his left leg, riding a black and gold Kawasaki Ninja 600cc.

Thanks to CCTV footage provided by the public, the police have been able to track the motorcyclist’s route from Edmund Road to Clayton Road, then Thomas Road, and finally Gordon Road heading east. Detective Senior Sergeant Mark van Kempen of Rotorua CIB has expressed gratitude for the public’s cooperation in providing valuable information.

The police have been actively present in the area following the incident, speaking with residents and gathering further details. Both Paige’s family and the police are urging anyone with knowledge about the motorcyclist or the incident to come forward. Van Kempen appeals to the motorcyclist to do the right thing and provide information for the sake of their own well-being and Paige’s grieving family.

Intentionally hindering the police investigation could lead to serious consequences for those involved. The community is encouraged to support the authorities in bringing justice for Paige Johnson and her family.
