Antwerp’s Dark Turn: A Foiled Terror Plot.
Belgian authorities have executed a swift intervention, apprehending three young suspects linked to a perilous Islamist plot targeting prominent figures, including Prime Minister Bart De Wever.
On the night of October 8th to 9th, law enforcement in Antwerp detained the trio, all described as ‘young adults’.
These individuals are accused of planning a ‘jihadist-inspired’ assault utilizing drones rigged with explosives, as detailed by the federal prosecutor’s office.
The Brussels Times reported:
“Multiple ministers confirmed that Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever was among the targeted individuals.”
At a press conference, Federal Prosecutor Ann Fransen elaborated on the situation, emphasizing that the arrests stemmed from an inquiry into ‘attempted terrorist murder and involvement in a terrorist organization’.
“Evidence suggests there was an intention to initiate a jihadist-inspired attack aimed at politicians,” she noted.

In a residence adjacent to De Wever’s home, investigators unearthed troubling findings.
“During the search of one suspect’s property, we located an improvised explosive device bearing a strong resemblance to an IED […] which was not yet operational. A bag filled with steel projectiles was also recovered,” Fransen stated.
Furthermore, a 3D printer was discovered with another suspect, likely intended to fabricate components for the assault. There are clear indications aiming towards producing a drone for attaching an explosive device,” she added.
