COMBATING WASTE, FRAUD, AND ABUSE THROUGH DATA TRANSPARENCY: President Donald J. Trump has taken decisive action today by signing an Executive Order aimed at curbing waste, fraud, and abuse through the elimination of information silos.

  • Agency Heads are instructed to provide full and timely access to unclassified records, data, and systems for Federal officials, facilitating the identification and eradication of waste, fraud, and abuse.

    • This directive includes the authorization and encouragement of both intra- and inter-agency sharing and consolidation of unclassified records.

  • Agency Heads are required to ensure immediate and unrestricted access to all data pertaining to state programs receiving federal funds, including third-party databases, to enhance oversight capabilities.
  • The Secretary of Labor will be granted access to unemployment data and payment records, bolstering efforts to detect fraudulent activities.
  • This Executive Order aims to enhance accountability and streamline government operations by ensuring Federal Agencies share crucial data, all while adhering to applicable privacy protections.

ADDRESSING BUREAUCRATIC INEFFICIENCY: The longstanding issue of restricted data access within and across agencies has resulted in duplicated efforts, unrecognized overpayments, and rampant fraud, costing taxpayers billions of dollars.

  • The previous administration’s opacity allowed waste to thrive, leading to annual losses in the billions due to improper payments and fraudulent claims.
  • In the fiscal year 2023, the Biden Administration reported an astonishing $236 billion in improper payments, stemming from overpayments, poor recordkeeping, and fraud.

    • A staggering 74% of these errors were overpayments, including payments made to deceased individuals.

  • Over four years, the Biden Administration incurred losses exceeding $925 billion due to improper payments.
  • Over the last two decades, the Federal Government has amassed an estimated $2.7 trillion in improper payments.
  • This Executive Order aims to dismantle unnecessary barriers, promote collaboration among agencies, and ensure that the Federal Government operates responsibly and efficiently to protect public funds.

STREAMLINING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT: Since resuming office, President Trump has acted swiftly to realize his vision of a leaner and more effective government.

  • On his first day, President Trump established the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) to explore ways to streamline the Federal Government, eliminate superfluous programs, and reduce bureaucratic inefficiencies.
  • A hiring freeze was imposed across federal agencies, restricting new hires to one for every four departures.
  • Unnecessary agencies and government programs have been eliminated under this directive.
  • A 10-to-1 deregulation initiative was launched by President Trump, ensuring that every new regulation is backed by clear benefits.
  • President Trump has committed to “cutting waste, fraud, and abuse wherever it can be found, and there’s plenty of it.”
