President Trump Signs Executive Order Ending Forced Use of Paper Straws

Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order to put an end to the procurement and forced use of paper straws. This move is aimed at promoting common sense and addressing the environmental and health concerns associated with paper straws.

  • The Federal government is now directed to cease purchasing paper straws and ensure that they are no longer provided within Federal buildings.
  • In addition, the Order mandates the development of a National Strategy to End the Use of Paper Straws within 45 days to eliminate the forced use of paper straws nationwide.

Bringing Back Common Sense

The irrational campaign against plastic straws has led to Americans being forced to use nonfunctional paper straws. President Trump’s Executive Order aims to put an end to this practice.

  • Many cities and states have banned plastic straws, succumbing to pressure from activists who prioritize symbolism over science.
  • Studies have shown that paper straws may pose health risks due to the presence of “forever chemical” PFAS, which can leach into drinks. Plastic straws, on the other hand, have been found to have no measurable PFAS content.
  • Paper straws are not only more expensive than plastic straws but also often require users to use multiple straws due to their lack of durability.
  • Contrary to popular belief, the production of paper straws can have a larger carbon footprint and water usage compared to plastic straws.
  • Furthermore, the individual packaging of paper straws in plastic undermines their supposed environmental benefits.

Promoting a Clean and Healthy Environment

President Trump has consistently prioritized promoting a clean and healthy environment for the American people through his policies and initiatives.

  • His administration has focused on fostering economic growth while upholding environmental standards that ensure clean air and water for all Americans.
  • In contrast to the previous Administration’s wasteful spending on virtue signaling, President Trump has implemented effective solutions to environmental challenges.
  • From advocating for improved forest management to halting the expansion of windmills, President Trump has demonstrated a commitment to preserving America’s natural resources.
  • He signed the Save Our Seas Act to protect oceans from pollution and has championed American energy independence through clean coal and natural gas production.
