President Trump Announces 100% Tariffs on China | The Gateway Pundit | by Margaret Flavin

Donald Trump seated at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, engaging in conversation during a meeting with advisors.

In a dramatic escalation of trade tensions, President Trump declared on Friday that starting November 1, the United States would impose a staggering 100 percent tariff on a wide range of Chinese goods. This announcement marks a significant increase from the current 30 percent tariffs already in place, and is positioned as a response to China’s tightened grips on critical minerals and rare earth elements.

The announcement was made via Truth Social, Trump’s platform of choice for broadcasting his bold policy decisions. He characterized China’s recent actions as “extraordinarily aggressive” and issued a stark warning to the global community about what he describes as an “unprecedented” move from Beijing.

According to Trump, “It has just been learned that China has taken an extraordinarily aggressive position on Trade in sending an extremely hostile letter to the World, stating that they were going to, effective November 1st, 2025, impose large scale Export Controls on virtually every product they make, and some not even made by them.”

He claimed that this move is not only a danger to the United States but affects all nations “without exception,” asserting it is a long-planned strategy by China to undermine international trade norms and “a moral disgrace in dealing with other Nations.”

Trump elaborated, “Based on the fact that China has taken this unprecedented position, and speaking only for the U.S.A., starting November 1st, 2025 or sooner, depending on any further actions taken by China, the United States of America will impose a Tariff of 100% on China, over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying.”

In a further twist, he announced that the U.S. would also implement export controls on critical software. “It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is History.”

This response follows Trump’s earlier commentary regarding the evolving situation in China, where he noted, “Some very strange things are happening in China! They are becoming very hostile, and sending letters to Countries throughout the World about imposing Export Controls,” which he suggests could clutter the global market and complicate international trade further.

His rhetoric implies that other countries share his concerns. “We have been contacted by other Countries who are extremely angry at this great Trade hostility, which came out of nowhere,” Trump stated, hinting at a potential coalition against Chinese policies.

Trump reflected on what he calls a surprisingly amicable relationship with China over the past months, remarking, “There is no way that China should be allowed to hold the World ‘captive,’ but that seems to have been their plan for quite some time.” He accused China of monopolizing critical resources, describing their actions as both “sinister” and a “hostile move.”

He added a rather defiant note regarding U.S. capabilities, “For every Element that they have been able to monopolize, we have two.” There was a tone of disbelief when he addressed the specifics detailed in China’s letter, calling the implications “routine” operations that suddenly aren’t so routine anymore.

With an upcoming meeting with President Xi at the APEC summit in South Korea, Trump expressed doubt about its relevance amid escalating tensions. “This was a real surprise, not only to me but to all the Leaders of the Free World,” he noted with an air of irony considering the context of his critique.

“Oh, and how fitting that such a significant diplomatic clash coincides with a day of newfound peace in the Middle East!” he mused, a remark dripping with skepticism about the timing of China’s announcements.

As this economic standoff escalates, Trump has indicated that “many other countermeasures” against China are under consideration, suggesting that the U.S. response could evolve in the coming weeks. “Ultimately, though potentially painful, it will be a very good thing, in the end, for the U.S.A,” he concluded, leaving us to ponder whether this is economic strategy or political theater.
