In a surprising move that has the political world abuzz, the White House declared on Wednesday evening that President Donald Trump will be making a visit to the Federal Reserve’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Thursday afternoon.
This visit arrives at a moment of escalating tension, as Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell faces mounting scrutiny from both the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans. The criticisms are twofold: his steadfast refusal to lower interest rates and the controversial $2.5 billion renovation project currently underway at the Fed’s headquarters.
According to Semafor’s White House correspondent Shelby Talcott, several notable administration officials will accompany Trump on this visit:
“New: TRUMP will join tomorrow’s visit to the Federal Reserve. Others attending include James Blair, Russ Vought, and Bill Pulte, as we previously reported.”

The Trump administration has not taken kindly to the Fed’s resistance regarding a personal inspection of the ongoing renovation project. Bill Pulte, Chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and a vocal critic of Powell, expressed his concerns during an appearance on Fox News with Laura Ingraham. He remarked on the peculiarities of the Fed’s renovation work:
“I’ve been in construction my whole life… but I go to this $2.5B Fed building and they’re tearing down marble and steel? It doesn’t make sense. We’re going to get to the bottom of it.”

Expounding on this issue, TGP’s Cristina Laila reports that Pulte mentioned two additional criminal referrals linked to the Fed’s exorbitant renovation costs, which have surged from an initial $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion. During his visit to the site, Pulte observed a mere six workers on the job, which raises eyebrows given the scale of the project.
Pulte’s frustrations were echoed by GOP Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, who has accused Powell of perjury in a letter to the Department of Justice this week, highlighting the growing discontent surrounding the Fed’s management.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also weighed in during an interview with Ingraham, suggesting that President Trump may announce a successor to Powell by year’s end, coinciding with the conclusion of Powell’s term next May.
