Every day, we depend on the compassionate care and unwavering dedication of our nation’s nursing professionals. On National Nurses Day, we honor these skilled individuals for their commitment to the health and well-being of their fellow citizens.

With an estimated 5 million nurses, this profession is the largest in our country’s healthcare system, serving communities across the nation in hospitals, clinics, schools, public health departments, and long-term care facilities. They are present during our most vulnerable and significant moments, from the joyous beginning of life to the somber end. Whether in emergencies, routine check-ups, or during the course of illness and recovery, patients and their families benefit from the expertise, compassion, and reassurance provided by these caregivers. In every situation, America’s nurses prioritize safeguarding our health and protecting the well-being of those we cherish with unmatched dedication.

Despite the long hours, demanding schedules, and high-pressure situations they face, nurses meet every challenge with skill, precision, and pride, always keeping their patients’ needs at the forefront. This dedication deserves reciprocation, which is why my Administration is committed to supporting our nation’s nurses every day. Through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act and the removal of taxes on overtime pay, we are ensuring nurses retain more of their earnings and achieve the financial security they deserve.

Nursing is a noble profession, deserving of our gratitude, respect, and admiration. On National Nurses Day, the First Lady joins me in celebrating America’s nurses, whose steady hands and generous hearts uphold the health of our people and enhance the vitality of our nation.
