Today, I join fellow Christians in heartfelt prayer as we mark the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost—an event that stands as a cornerstone of the Christian faith. This occasion not only celebrates the culmination of Jesus Christ’s mission during his time on Earth but also heralds the birth of His living Church.
Fifty days after the miraculous resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday, the Holy Spirit made its presence known to the Apostles, manifesting as a powerful wind that enabled them to communicate in diverse tongues. This divine empowerment compelled them to spread the Gospel across distant lands and communities. “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,” proclaimed the Apostle Peter with inspiring boldness.
Empowered by divine courage and grace, the Apostles faced immense challenges, tirelessly working to guide souls toward the Christian faith. Their efforts signified the inception of the Church, an institution that, as promised, would not falter even against the forces of evil. Over two millennia later, the Holy Spirit remains active, descending upon all who profess Christ’s name and empowering them to disseminate the Gospel message.
As we commemorate this momentous feast, we also pay tribute to all Christians who have bravely faced persecution for their beliefs, reminiscent of the early Apostles. My Administration is steadfast in its commitment to protect the right of every American to worship freely and without fear. To uphold this conviction, I established the White House Faith Office and initiated the White House Religious Liberty Commission, aimed at reinforcing America’s foundational principle of religious freedom. Under my guidance, we are safeguarding the presence of God in the public sphere, encouraging every believer to express their faith openly and without intimidation.
As we celebrate the miraculous event of Pentecost and the birth of Christ’s Church, let us pray for the Holy Spirit to fill our Nation and its people with overflowing grace—bringing forth peace, protection, and a profound sense of God’s presence.
May God bless you, and may His blessings continue to shine upon the United States of America. Wishing you a blessed Pentecost!
