Celebrating 235 Years of the United States Coast Guard
For over two centuries, the United States Coast Guard has been the vigilant guardian of our waters and a stalwart defender of our homeland, proudly standing as America’s foremost maritime law enforcement agency. Their unwavering commitment to patrol and protect is commendable, and today, we take a moment to honor the Coast Guard’s rich legacy and the countless men and women who embody the motto: “Semper Paratus”—“Always Ready.”
A Diligent Force Against Threats
Every day, the Coast Guard works tirelessly to shield America from perilous threats. In the first half of 2025 alone, they have seized an astounding 240,000 pounds of cocaine, marking a remarkable increase of over 100 percent compared to the same period in 2024. This dedicated effort not only contributes to safer streets but also protects families and communities from the devastating impact of narcotics that have tragically claimed too many American lives.
Heroism in Times of Crisis
The Coast Guard’s unwavering commitment to its citizens was prominently displayed last month when rescue teams were dispatched to Central Texas in response to devastating floods. Amidst chaos and destruction, these brave Coast Guardsmen saved hundreds of lives, exemplifying the heroism, compassion, and resolve that defines their service. Their inspiring dedication to safeguarding the American people is a testament to the very best qualities of our Nation.
Investing in the Future of the Coast Guard
As President, my commitment to ensuring that every Coast Guardsman has the necessary support, resources, and capabilities is unwavering. Through our ambitious Force Design 2028 initiative—backed by historic funding from the One Big Beautiful Bill—my Administration is empowering the Coast Guard to fulfill its mission with enhanced efficiency and strength. The results are evident, with military recruitment levels soaring, and the Coast Guard now poised to surpass recruitment goals by a staggering 110 percent—a sharp turnaround from the recruitment challenges faced during the previous administration.
Honoring Our Coast Guardsmen
As we gather to commemorate the 235th anniversary of the United States Coast Guard, we not only honor the brave patriots who guard our shores but also acknowledge our profound gratitude for their steadfast dedication to preserving American excellence.
