With World Trade Week upon us, we reaffirm our dedication to enhancing American prosperity through robust trade policies that prioritize our workforce, businesses, and nation.
For over a hundred years, America has been the preeminent economic force globally, thanks to its innovative drive and advanced manufacturing, supported by the most productive workforce ever known. However, as American industries thrived, foreign competitors began inundating our markets with low-cost imports, limiting opportunities for domestic producers. For years, ineffective politicians compromised our prosperity for the sake of free trade, undermining our workers, decimating factories, and weakening the industries that made us strong. These leaders tolerated the relocation of American production abroad as a cost of global business, even as free markets failed to deliver fairness.
Under my leadership, we have ended the era of economic concession. American innovation will no longer be misused by foreign nations that undermine our workforce, take our jobs, and destabilize our supply chains. I have implemented a trade policy that frees America from unfair practices and restores our national wealth.
