Prince Harry is contemplating a future that would see him splitting his family life between California and the U.K., according to sources close to the Duke of Sussex. Since stepping back from their roles as working royals in 2020, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have been residing in Montecito, California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Despite their comfortable life in California, Prince Harry has never stopped yearning for his homeland in Britain. In a BBC interview last May, he openly expressed his longing for family gatherings and friends back in the U.K. These sentiments have sparked speculation that Prince Harry is considering a transatlantic compromise in his family life.

A source close to the Sussexes revealed, “Harry has always seen Britain as unfinished business. California is where their family functions on a practical level, but emotionally, there is a constant pull for Harry to return to Britain.” Another insider emphasized that splitting time between the U.S. and the U.K. is a deeply personal decision for Prince Harry, driven by his desire for his children to understand their roots.

However, security concerns remain a major obstacle in Prince Harry’s plans to split his time between the two countries. Without adequate protection, he cannot ensure the safety of his family during extended stays in the U.K. Despite this challenge, sources suggest that relations between Prince Harry and his father, King Charles III, are slowly improving.

Prince Harry hopes to introduce his children to their British heritage in small doses, through stories, visits from relatives, and his own recollections. While they are being raised as Californians in practical terms, Prince Harry is keen on ensuring that Archie and Lilibet develop an emotional connection to Britain.

In essence, Prince Harry’s desire to split his time between California and the U.K. is not about resuming royal duties but rather about maintaining a sense of roots, memory, and belonging for his children. As he navigates this delicate balance between two worlds, Prince Harry remains focused on creating a meaningful and fulfilling life for his family.
